The Learning Experience

Transcript

In this video, we'll look at how the learning experience unfolds.

The majority of course activities are learning modules, and the central activity of any learning module is the tutorial. Most tutorials start with a warm up question to get you thinking about making connections to the lesson's main topic. Making a connection to the subject of a tutorial can help deepen your understanding and spark questions you want to learn the answer to.

After the warm up, you'll dive into the content of the tutorial. The tutorial is where the majority of the direct instruction in a course is located. You'll learn through a series of engaging slides and questions designed to teach you everything you need to know.

Throughout each tutorial, you'll have knowledge checks like this one to help you see whether you're understanding the subject and skills.

You'll usually find one or more lesson activities in each tutorial. Lesson activities will help you apply the skills you have learned in the tutorial in order to deepen your understanding and put it all together.

Throughout the tutorial, new terms are linked to the glossary for quick definition. You might also see other phrases that are linked to pop-ups. Some of these may ask guiding questions or offer deeper context.

From the toolbar, you can navigate to a different section of the tutorial, access lesson resources like worksheets or guided notes, get dictionary definitions, slide narrations and more.

After each tutorial is a short mastery test focused on the tutorial's key concepts, to make sure you've met the lesson's learning objectives. The questions are similar to the knowledge check questions you worked on in the tutorial, except there aren't any feedback hints in a test. There's a set passing score for mastery tests. If you do not achieve that score, the mastery test locks. To unlock it, you'll need to review your work in the tutorial, then retake the mastery test.

So to strengthen your understanding and confidence in completing the mastery test, it's best to review the tutorial and your notes first.
